About Stožok

The municipality of Stožok is located 5 km west of the district town Detva, at an altitude of 406 meters above sea level and it seems predestined to become the leaving point for attractive hiking and biking trips. It is a modern and attractive village with lots of young people.

A cultural landmark is the church of Holy Family built in 2002. Another historically important landmark is the Little Bell Tower built in 1863. There is a procession and a holy mass held every year in honour of this occasion.

In Stožok there are many cultural and social events organized all-year around. The more traditional ones include Goulash Master, which annually takes place on the last Saturday in the month of May. In 2012 this event got a record in the Slovak Book of Records - the village reached the highest number of teams cooking goulash in one place on the same day (90 teams). A very popular event for children is the Fairy tale Forest organized annually on the last Saturday in June, at the beginning of the summer holidays. The children of Stožok, as well as the children from neighbouring towns, journey through the forest where they can meet their favourite characters from various fairy tales. In the evening children, parents and visitors can look forward to a content-rich programme.

Various sport activities are available at the new sports and recreational grounds which were officially opened in 2008. The sports grounds include a football field, a multipurpose field with artificial grass, a sand court and a bar with a bowling alley. In the year 2014 Stožok got its own climbing wall and ropes courses for kids and adults. Through these activities you can have yourself some fun, get your adrenaline pumping and strengthen all the muscles in your body. A biking trail called “Hontianska cyklomagistrála” runs right through Stožok, which makes it a suitable place for biking trips.
